Our Ethos

At the heart of our setting is a belief that every child is unique, capable and deserving of the very best start in life. We provide a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment where children feel valued, listened to and confident to explore, play, learn and develop at their own pace.

Our curriculum is carefully sequenced to enable all children to make progress during their time with us. We build on what children already know and can do, providing meaningful experiences that develop knowledge, skills, confidence and independence. We recognise that children learn best when they are actively involved, curious and able to learn through play, exploration and real-life experiences.

We believe that childhood should be filled with joy, fun and laughter. We want children to look forward to coming to our setting, knowing that learning can be exciting, enjoyable and full of discovery. We value the importance of laughter, silliness, celebration and shared moments of joy, recognising that positive experiences and warm relationships create memories that children carry with them. Fun is not separate from learning; it is an important part of how children learn, develop and build a lifelong love of learning.

We place strong importance on communication and language, recognising that children need the confidence, vocabulary and listening skills to express themselves, build relationships and make sense of the world around them. Through conversations, stories, songs, rhymes and meaningful interactions, we support children to become confident communicators and enthusiastic learners.

We nurture children’s personal, social and emotional development, helping them to recognise and manage their emotions, develop positive relationships, show empathy and respect for others, and become increasingly independent. We encourage children to make choices, take appropriate risks, solve problems and develop resilience, while knowing that caring and supportive adults are there when they need them.

We value every child’s individuality, culture, family and experiences, ensuring that children feel a strong sense of belonging. We promote equality, inclusion and respect, helping children to understand and appreciate the similarities and differences that make each person special.

Our environment provides children with opportunities to develop across all areas of learning. We encourage curiosity about the world, creativity through expressive arts, physical development through active play, and early literacy and mathematical thinking through purposeful experiences and everyday routines.

We believe that relationships are at the centre of everything we do. Through warm, responsive interactions and positive role modelling, we create an environment where children feel secure and confident to have a go, make mistakes, try again and celebrate their achievements. We believe that children thrive when they feel safe, loved, understood and happy.

We work in partnership with parents, carers and the wider community, recognising that children thrive when the important adults in their lives work together. We value families as children’s first and most important educators and seek to build open, respectful and trusting relationships.

Above all, our ethos is to know every child, value every child and support every child to flourish. We want children to leave us as confident, curious and capable learners, equipped with the foundations they need for their next stage of learning and for life — while remembering that their early years should be a time of happiness, friendship, fun, laughter and discovery.
